Several feared dead as two-storey building collapses in Rivers

Panic gripped residents of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday after a two-storey building under construction collapsed, trapping an unspecified number of workers beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred along Dr. Peter Odili Road near Eterna Filling Station, less than 24 hours after another building collapse was reported in the Iwofe area of the state capital.
Eyewitnesses said construction workers had resumed work for the day when the structure suddenly gave way, forcing labourers and nearby residents to flee for safety.
Emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene and immediately commenced rescue operations to locate and evacuate those feared trapped under the debris.
At least two victims were rescued alive from the collapsed building and taken to a hospital for treatment. However, their identities and current medical conditions had not been disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Rescue teams continued searching through the wreckage for other workers believed to be trapped, while anxious relatives and residents gathered around the site awaiting updates.
The latest incident has raised fresh concerns over building safety and construction standards in Rivers State, coming barely a day after a similar collapse in the Iwofe area, which reportedly recorded no casualties.
Authorities had yet to determine the cause of the collapse or confirm the exact number of victims as rescue efforts remained ongoing.
