Manchester City confirm Enzo Maresca as Guardiola’s successor

Manchester City have officially appointed Italian coach Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager, succeeding Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard’s departure.

The 46-year-old has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029.

Speaking after his unveiling on Monday, Maresca described his return to Manchester City as a proud moment, saying he was excited to lead a club he knows well.

“Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me,” he said.

The former Leicester City and Chelsea manager praised City’s structure, describing the club as innovative, well-run and purpose-driven.

According to Maresca, this marks his third spell at Manchester City, giving him a clear understanding of the club’s culture, expectations and ambition.

“I know this club, I know the demands and I know the expectations. The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability,” he added.

Maresca said his immediate focus is to build a winning team capable of playing entertaining football while embracing the expectations that come with representing the Premier League champions.

“I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City,” he said.

The Italian now begins a new chapter at the Etihad as he takes over from Guardiola ahead of the new season.
